Sit N Go

Sit N GoSit N Go online poker tournaments are those that get underway just as soon as the required number of players have registered. The term Sit N Go is synonymous with Sit and Go and Single Table Tournament, and usually refers to single table tourneys that require anything from six to ten players.

Sit N Go tournaments are available at almost all online poker sites, including William Hill Poker. However, there are also a few multi-table Sit N Go tourneys that you will find if you look hard enough (try PokerStars for starters). The poker played in Sit N Go games is most often Texas Hold’em, but Omaha and Stud are also becoming increasingly popular in this format, so you have plenty of games to choose from.

Sit N Go games are run as tournaments, so in a single table tournament you will need to finish in the first two or three to make a profit. You can of course play for fun (no cash involved) at many poker and casino sites, and these games are good for learning the Sit N Go ropes. However, nothing compares to the thrill of beating off your opponents and walking away with cold, hard cash – even if it’s only a few pounds or dollars.

The amount of money you can win playing Sit N Go games is directly related to the size of the buy-in, and there is generally a wide range of choice to suit every budget. For example, over at Betfair Poker you could enter a Rookie Sit N Go nine player game for just $0.11 (yes, eleven measly cents!) and win $0.45 for first place, $0.27 for second place and $0.18 for third place. Or you could go to the other extreme and enter a six player Sit N Go game for $150 + $10 and win $540 for first place and $360 for second place. And there are obviously many other levels between these two extremes.

Playing in Sit N Go tournaments has a number of advantages. The first is that you can literally sit down and start playing just as soon as the available seats have been filled. Sit N Go tournaments also have a definite cut-off point – you can’t keep playing in the same game for hours as you can in a cash game. By the same token, you don’t have to worry about someone running off with your chips after a losing hand (unless you’ve gone broke) because nobody can walk away with the chips on the table except those who continue to the end and finish in the money.

Yet another advantage to Sit N Go games is the very simple fact that you have a much better chance of winning against a handful of opponents that you do in a multi-table tournament with hundreds of players. Play at a six seat Sit N Go poker table and you have a 1 in 6 chance of being the outright winner, and you’d have a 1 in 9 chance at a nine seat table. And that’s assuming that all players are equally skilful. If you develop your online poker skills to the point where you are better than average, your odds of walking away with a profit are even greater.
