UltimateBet.com has announced that a thorough investigation into potential unfair play has found that some players did have an advantage and used it to unfairly extract money at “the highest limit games” available on the site. UltimateBet, which is licensed by the Kahnawake Gaming Commission, worked hard with the commission to identify exactly what had been going on and how it had been possible.
The short version of the findings is that employees of the previous owners of UltimateBet had tweaked the software so that they could see the hole cards of their opponents at the poker tables. By playing at the tables with the most money at stake, the criminals then unfairly won what is rumoured to be a total of seven figures.
The current owners of UltimateBet.com, Tokwiro Enterprises, purchased the popular online gaming site in October 2006, but did not discover the crime that had actually been committed until February 2008. To their credit, they acted incredibly swiftly in January 2008 when the possibility of unfair play was raised, and have promised to refund every penny that players lost due to any fraudulent activity taking place.
In addition to those refunds, Tokwiro Enterprises and the regulatory body have worked hard to introduce new security measures that are designed to prevent similar incidents taking place in the future.
"We would like to thank our customers for their patience, loyalty and support, as well as for their understanding that we are doing everything we can to correct this situation,” said a company spokesperson. “The staff and management of UltimateBet are fully committed to providing a safe and secure environment for our players, and we want to assure customers of our unwavering resolve to monitor site security with every resource at our disposal."
The company is now “pursuing its legal options” in respect of bringing the poker fraudsters to justice.
