Deviations

It may occasionally happen that a miscellaneous error occurs in a game. This section of rules on deviations is intended to anticipate most such errors and provide players with details of how they will be dealt with.

8.1 Invalid hands (otherwise known as "dead" hands) are those which are no longer legible to win the pot.

The following situations render a hand invalid:

8.2 A player announcing that they are folding.

8.3 A player throwing his hand away toward the muck. This applies even if the hand was discarded in jest if it causes other players to believe he has folded.

8.4 A player throwing his hand toward another player.

8.5 Having an illegal hole card (such as a joker or rule card) which should have been noted at the outset (see section 6 - Dealing Errors).

8.6 Exceeding a time limit in a time-restricted game.

Other deviation rules are as follows:

8.7 Players are responsible for their own hands. If they allow the dealer to kill their hand by neglecting to protect it properly, they automatically surrender any rights to that hand.

8.8 Should a card from a different deck be dealt to a player (that is, one with a different colour or design on the back) the hand is made void.

8.9 Should an extra card be dealt to the table before betting begins, that card will be withdrawn by the dealer and used as a burn card.

8.10 If the button is placed incorrectly, in the next hand it will - as far as possible - be placed in such a position that the error is rectified and allows all players one hand in each play position.

8.11 Should two or more cards of the same suit and rank be found during a hand, the hand is made void and all chips in the pot will be returned to the players accordingly.

8.12 Any player who notices a defect in the cards that they or other players are dealt is required to report this immediately.

8.13 Boxed cards - those which are found face up when the deck is held face down - will be discarded and the card below dealt instead. The same applies to any joker or rules card which may appear in the deck.

8.14 If it is discovered that one or more cards are missing from the deck then all previously played hands will stand and all future hands dealt from a complete deck.

8.15 Should a player inadvertently play a hand which contains an invalid card (for example, by failing to notice a joker among his hole cards) then he must take responsibility for that error and cannot appeal to the dealer at a later stage.

8.16 Cards exposed or potentially exposed through your own fault (for example, by dropping them) must be played as normal.

8.17 If the dealer inadvertently burns fewer or more cards than he ought, corrective action will be taken if no betting has ensued. If betting has started, subsequent cards will, as far as possible, be dealt as if no error had occurred.

8.18 Should cards be inadvertently dealt before the current round of betting is complete, those cards will not be valid for play.
